3004 mill finish aluminum is a non-heat-treatable 3xxx-series aluminum-manganese-magnesium alloy supplied in sheet and coil form. Compared with 3003 in a similar temper, it generally provides higher strength while retaining good formability and corrosion resistance. Mill finish refers to its natural rolled surface, without a decorative paint or anodized layer.
Henan Worthwill Industry Co., Ltd. supplies 3004 aluminum sheet, coil, slit coil and cut-to-length material for roofing, roll forming, stamped components and use as a substrate for color coating. Commonly requested tempers include O, H14, H24 and H34; other H tempers require specification review. Dimensions and processing options are confirmed according to temper, thickness, width and quantity.
For an accurate quotation, send us the alloy standard, temper, thickness, width, sheet length or coil size, intended application and order quantity. We can review slitting, leveling, surface protection, inspection requirements and export packing before production.
3004 aluminum sheet and coil combine the forming characteristics of 3xxx-series aluminum with greater strength than 3003 in comparable conditions. The alloy contains both manganese and magnesium, making it a practical choice for rolled aluminum products that require strength, corrosion resistance and reliable fabrication performance.
Worthwill supplies AA 3004 aluminum for architectural sheet-metal work, roll forming, stamping, appliance components and further surface processing. Buyers can order natural mill finish material for fabrication or specify a separate coating process when a painted finish is required.
3004 is a wrought, non-heat-treatable aluminum alloy. Its principal alloying elements are manganese (1.0–1.5%) and magnesium (0.8–1.3%). Common designations include AA 3004, UNS A93004 and EN AW-3004 (AlMn1Mg1), subject to the applicable material standard.
Because 3004 cannot be strengthened through precipitation heat treatment, its mechanical properties are controlled mainly by cold working and temper selection. O temper offers greater ductility, while H tempers provide different levels of strength and hardness.
Mill finish aluminum retains the natural rolled surface without decorative painting, anodizing or polishing. It can be used directly for industrial fabrication or processed further after appropriate surface preparation.
3004 is primarily supplied as rolled aluminum sheet and coil. The required product form depends on the customer's equipment, processing method and finished-part dimensions.
| Product Form | Supply Description | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| 3004 Aluminum Sheet | Flat sheet or cut-to-length material | Roofing components, panels, housings and stamped parts |
| 3004 Aluminum Coil | Full-width continuous coil | Roll forming, coating lines and continuous fabrication |
| 3004 Aluminum Strip | Slit narrow-width coil | Trim, formed components and continuous stamping |
Slitting, leveling, cut-to-length processing, edge trimming, protective film and suitable export packing can be discussed. The actual supply range depends on thickness, temper, width, processing requirements and production availability.
Temper selection is important because 3004-H14 and 3004-H24 are not simply two names for the same material. They are produced through different processing routes, even though both are commonly associated with half-hard conditions.
| Temper | Main Characteristics | Selection Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| 3004-O | Annealed condition with high ductility and lower strength | Deep drawing, complex forming and demanding bending |
| 3004-H14 | Strain-hardened half-hard condition | General sheet-metal work, stamping and moderate forming |
| 3004-H24 | Strain-hardened and partially annealed half-hard condition | Roofing profiles, roll forming, panels and coating substrates |
| 3004-H34 | Strain-hardened and stabilized half-hard condition | Applications specifying H34 properties and controlled forming behavior |
Other tempers, including H12, H16, H18, H19 and H38, may be considered for particular applications, subject to the governing standard and production capability.
For tight bending, deep drawing or repeated stamping, the buyer should provide the forming method, bend radius and required mechanical properties. A harder temper is not automatically better: higher strength generally comes with reduced ductility.
Roofing and architectural components: 3004 aluminum coil can be formed into selected roofing profiles, siding, covers and building components where strength, low weight and corrosion resistance are important.
Color coated aluminum substrate: 3004 is an available substrate alloy for prepainted aluminum. After suitable pretreatment, PE, HDP or PVDF coating systems can be specified according to the finished product and service environment. See Worthwill's Color Coated Aluminum Coil & Sheet.
Appliance and industrial fabrication: 3004 aluminum sheet can be considered for equipment covers, enclosures, appliance components, general sheet-metal parts and stamped products that need more strength than common 3003 material.
Cookware and formed containers: Suitable 3004 tempers can be used for drawn or formed household and container products. Food-contact applications require the finished material, surface treatment and production process to comply with the relevant requirements.
Specialized can-body material: 3004 is also used in certain beverage-can stock applications. However, can-body production normally requires application-specific temper, gauge, surface and forming controls. Ordinary mill finish 3004 coil should not automatically be treated as qualified beverage-can stock.
A mill finish is the natural surface left by the rolling process. It may show fine rolling lines, slight shade variation or minor handling traces that are acceptable for industrial processing. It should not be confused with mirror finish, brushed finish or prepainted aluminum.
For products with exposed decorative surfaces, specify the visible side, acceptable surface condition, protective-film requirement and inspection criteria. Painting, laminating or bonding generally requires appropriate cleaning and pretreatment.
These alloys can serve some similar applications, but their chemical composition, temper availability and mechanical performance are not identical.
| Alloy | Main Difference | Suitable Selection |
|---|---|---|
| 3003 | General-purpose Al-Mn alloy with good formability and lower strength than 3004 in comparable tempers | General sheet-metal work and applications where 3003 meets the strength requirement |
| 3004 | Al-Mn-Mg alloy with higher strength than 3003 and useful forming performance | Roofing, formed panels, industrial sheet and coated aluminum substrate |
| 3105 | Al-Mn-Mg alloy widely used in architectural and prepainted aluminum applications | Siding, gutters, roofing, closures and roll-formed building products |
| 5052 | Higher-magnesium alloy with higher strength and good resistance to demanding environments | Marine-related components, equipment panels, tanks and stronger fabricated parts |
For general-purpose sheet metal, compare 3003 Aluminum Sheet & Coil with 3004. For architectural roll-forming applications, see 3105 Aluminum Sheet & Coil. Where greater strength or more demanding corrosion resistance is required, 5052 Aluminum Sheet & Coil may be more appropriate.
Alloy selection should follow the drawing, required temper, mechanical properties, forming method and service conditions rather than relying only on an alloy number.
3004 aluminum sheet and coil can be specified according to applicable ASTM B209/B209M, EN 573, EN 485, GB/T 3880 or agreed customer requirements. The purchase order should identify the governing standard and required temper because mechanical properties and dimensional tolerances depend on the specification.
Inspection can include chemical composition, tensile properties, thickness, width, flatness, surface quality, edge condition and coil dimensions. Mill test certificates and third-party inspection can be arranged according to the agreed order requirements.
Export packing can include moisture-resistant wrapping, edge protection, strapping and suitable pallets or cases. Protective film or paper interleaving can be considered for appearance-sensitive material.
The general minimum order quantity for 3004 aluminum sheet and coil is 3 metric tons, subject to the final specification and order arrangement.
For normal confirmed orders, dispatch is arranged within 30 days after receipt of the final balance payment, according to the agreed supply terms.
3004 aluminum sheet and coil prices depend on the aluminum market price, alloy, temper, dimensions, order quantity, processing, tolerances, packing and delivery terms. There is no fixed price suitable for every specification.
Is 3004 aluminum stronger than 3003?
Yes. In comparable tempers, 3004 generally provides higher strength because it contains magnesium in addition to manganese. The difference should be checked against the actual temper and material standard.
What is the difference between 3004-H14 and 3004-H24?
Both are half-hard tempers, but H14 is strain hardened while H24 is strain hardened and partially annealed. Their final properties must be checked against the applicable standard, thickness and forming requirements.
Can 3004 aluminum be painted or color coated?
Yes. 3004 can be used as a substrate for PE, HDP or PVDF color coating after suitable surface cleaning and pretreatment.
Is 3004 aluminum suitable for roofing?
Yes. Suitable 3004 sheet and coil tempers can be used for roofing and formed architectural products. The final selection depends on the roof profile, thickness, span, fastening system and service environment.
Can 3004 aluminum be used for beverage cans?
Yes, in specially manufactured can-stock conditions. Beverage-can material requires more specific forming and surface controls than ordinary mill finish aluminum coil.
